Most of the services in Germany are bought as contracts. Some examples include:
Mobile monthly plan
Home Internet, Telephony
Home electricity
Insurances
Car rentals
Bank accounts and credit cards and so on
Most of the contracts run for a period of 24 months and get auto renewed for 1 year afterwards. It is observed that timely changing of contracts within 21 months( the cancellation window being 3 months, generally) has been proven beneficial for the consumer. So it makes absolute sense to keep track of running contracts.

Internet Connections
Vodafone Cable Internet:
For the new internet connections, the comparison of the tariffs can be made on the Check24 portal. The comparison can also be made between the Check24 website and the official Vodafone portal at https://zuhauseplus.vodafone.de/internet-telefon/ . If it is of convenience, the local Vodafone store can also be a point where the new connection could be ordered. The debit is done via a SEPA Mandate, which is created by the account details that are provided by you when applying for the connection. This leads to a direct debit by Vodafone every month from the provided account automatically.
The modem is plug and play. Generally, it is instantaneous in activation. The Modem may take a week to arrive and therefore it is better to order earlier. Usually for the cable modems, the suggestion is that the data port must be present alongside the radio and the TV ports. The cable is connected from the Data port in the wall outlet to the cable modem supplied by Vodafone. If this is not the case, Vodafone does supply the converter, which plugs into the TV and the Radio ports and converts it into the data port.
The box contains a small slip, which tells the SSID (the name in which the Modem broadcasts its network) and the password for the internet connection. In order to change these, the login can be done by accessing the admin page of the router and the password for the router. The modem should be kept turned on always as it tries to download the required firmware files in the beginning.
The post sent separately or sent with the box contains the customer number and the activation code, which is required to create a login to check the bills (which can be viewed online too).
Note
However, it is necessary to confirm that the Modem is offered free of charge in the store. Sometimes it can be the case that the Modem is offered free only for the new connections via the internet.
The modem is dispatched via post/courier to the customer. The address where the modem is being ordered can differ from the address of the new connection. This is particularly useful in the cases where the postbox outside the house doesn’t contain your name (as it might be still occupied by the old tenant).
Ask the landlord whether there needs to be an access to the junction box to the Vodafone personnel. In cases where the previous connection was with Vodafone, this might not be necessary.
It is necessary to make sure whether the plan activated by the Vodafone Store is the same as the plan you wanted. In many cases, the Vodafone Store personnel activate the plan for 1Gbps, with a disclaimer that the plan can be changed to the required plan in the first 6 months. In this case, the onus lies on the customer to change the plan within the first 6 months of activation.
